07.30.26 · Alpha Charlie
Key Takeaways
- AUVSI XPONENTIAL is the world’s largest trade show for unmanned and autonomous systems, drawing professionals from defense, agriculture, public safety and beyond.
- UAS marketing demands its own approach, blending regulatory knowledge, technical audience insight and trust-focused messaging.
- Our long-standing work with NPUASTS and Vantis at XPONENTIAL keeps us closely connected to emerging UAS and AAM trends, strengthening the industry knowledge and relationships we bring to other clients across this rapidly evolving market.
Every industry has its one event that matters more than the rest. For unmanned systems, that event is AUVSI XPONENTIAL.
If you work anywhere in the UAS or autonomous systems space, defense, agriculture, public safety, aerial application, you already know the name. If you’re still learning the landscape, here’s the short version: AUVSI XPONENTIAL is the largest gathering of unmanned and autonomous systems professionals in the world, and it’s become the single best barometer for where this industry is headed.

Continuing Our UAS Support in Detroit

XPONENTIAL 2026 in Detroit marked the fifth year Alpha Charlie was on the ground supporting the Northern Plains UAS Test Site (NPUASTS) and Vantis, North Dakota’s statewide beyond-visual-line-of-sight system. Our work at the show included facilitating face-to-face meetings, providing real-time public relations support and strengthening relationships across the UAS industry. These behind-the-scenes efforts help maintain a strong, credible presence at an event of this scale.
Our partnership with the NPUASTS team extends well beyond the show floor. Over the years, we have helped strengthen the organization’s brand and digital presence as its role within the national UAS test site landscape has grown. We have also worked alongside the team to help brand, launch and build awareness of Vantis, translating a highly technical and complex infrastructure network into clear, compelling communications for industry stakeholders and the public. Supporting both organizations at XPONENTIAL is a natural extension of that long-standing partnership.

More movement in UAS came not just from hardware or technological innovation, but in the changing regulations and opportunities to address them.
Info sessions led by NPUASTS subject matter experts highlighted how future FAA regulations – that North Dakota’s Test Site helped craft – will impact operators. Some of the industry’s biggest creators stopped in to see how the NPUASTS worked with the FAA to use federal radar data on the brand-new Vantis Federal Radar Data Enclave.
Alpha Charlie was there to make sure media, attendees and prospects had the info and the contacts to make connections.
Defense Makes News at XPONENTIAL

This year’s AUVSI XPONENTIAL made clear how fast the space is scaling. The show floor expanded, adding an outdoor demo area, themed pavilions and the XPO+ Launcher Startup Pavilion for emerging companies, alongside a growing Defense Technologies Zone co-located with the Michigan Defense Expo, which brought more than 3,000 defense, government and industry professionals to the floor.
Tying into these priorities, this year’s XPONENTIAL saw how government and defense contractors will need to comply with National Defense Authorization Act regulations, forbidding drones with parts made in specific foreign countries. Again, the NPUASTS has been on the forefront of this change and already has ways to help the industry.
AUVSI President and CEO Michael Robbins framed 2026 as a pivotal moment for the industry, noting that the future of robotics and autonomous systems will be shaped by public trust, safety and the ability to scale responsibly.
Why This Matters for UAS Marketing
Marketing to the UAS sector isn’t the same as marketing to a consumer audience, and it isn’t quite like traditional aviation marketing either. It sits in its own category, technical enough to require real credibility, niche enough that generic marketing agencies often miss the buyers entirely, and fast-moving enough that yesterday’s playbook doesn’t always work today.
XPONENTIAL is where you see that dynamic play out in real time. Companies that show up with a clear brand story and a defined audience walk away with real leads. Marketing at this level requires understanding the regulatory environment, the technical audience and the emotional hook (safety, efficiency, innovation) all at once.

What We Learned (and What Comes Next)
Every year at XPONENTIAL reinforces the same lesson: this industry moves fast, and the companies and organizations that win are the ones who pair real technical credibility with marketing that speaks to their audience, whether that audience is a defense procurement officer, an ag operator or a regulator still writing the rules.
We’ll be back at XPONENTIAL in 2027, and we’re always looking for the next opportunity to stand alongside our clients on the ground, wherever the unmanned systems conversation takes us next.
Let’s Talk Before the Next Show
If you’re a UAS company trying to figure out how to show up at your next big event, or how to build a marketing strategy that understands your industry instead of borrowing from someone else’s playbook, we’d love to talk. We’ve spent years in this space, on the show floor and behind the scenes, and we know what it takes to help a UAS brand fly higher.
